Daniel Kane Miles McGinty 1913 - 1976
« on: Monday 09 November 15 15:33 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping for fresh eyes to help me please….. my connection is that Annie McGinty nee Murray was a great aunt.

Facts:
Daniel Kane Miles McGinty married Gladys Irene B Cole – Coventry 1937 Q3 6d 2704. He gives his father as Charles McGinty millwright. One witness is M J Clifford – who I know to be the daughter of Annie’s sister Kathleen.

They had 3 children that I can find on freebmd F 1939 Coventry, M 1945 Belper, F 1951 Belper.

Gladys’ death was registered in 1971 Q1 Derby 3A 922 [birthdate given as 7 Jul 1915], Daniel’s in 1976 Q3 Derby 6 0083 [birthdate given as 29 Apr 1913]. I can find no probate for either.

In 1939 Daniel & Gladys [and one redacted entry in the household who is presumably the 1939 daughter] were at 220 St Georges Road, Coventry.

In 1939 Alice Annie McGinty nee Murray [known as Annie] born 1877 Bermuda [to an army father who was Irish] & husband Charles born 1883 are at 267 St Georges Road. He is ‘mate to driver of 6 wheel … for RAF’. When Annie died in 1951, she & Charles [informant on her death certificate, millwright’s assistant - engineering works] were living at 220 St Georges Road – so it appears they had moved into Daniel’s house after he had moved to Derbyshire between 1939 & 1945.

Question:
Where was Daniel Kane Miles McGinty born? In 1911 Annie aged ‘31’ [actually 34] & Charles aged 28 born Ireland are in Partick, Scotland married 4 years 4 children all dead. In 1916 Annie sent a postcard to my grandfather which I have in my possession, for his birthday, also from Partick so still there. I have checked SP, freebmd, familysearch, ancestry for Daniel with and without middle name/initial & also ‘male’. He is not the Daniel McGinty born Preston 1913 MMN Garnett died 1965 Preston who married * Benson in Preston in 1951. As Annie may have gone back to her parents in Ireland for the birth I have looked on rootsireland.ie and there are 2 birth/baptism matches for 1913 but now you cannot buy credits & I do not have a subscription - £18 for 1 month is a bit steep for 1 query.

As an aside I suspect Charles is the son of Daniel & Bridget

Thanks for any help, Josey

Added: Perhaps I should have posted this on the Glasgow board?
Another edit: here is the link to a previous 2008 post about Annie & Charlie. The certificate I sent off for was not the correct McGinty.

Hiya Josey,

I stumbled across this post as I was searching for info on my great grandad, who just so happens to be Daniel Kane Myles McGinty!

He was born to Catherine Myles in Renfrew, Glasgow, in 1913 and was adopted into the McGinty family. Because he was adopted it has made me trying to find info on it really hard so your post came in really useful!

I am currently trying to track down his military records from WW2, so if there's any more info you want to know let me know!

PS without naming any living people, can you say who your grandparents are?
