I just did a quick search for my father, ticked all three events as suggested by JM,only his death showed up but abbreviation of given names was commonly used in indices so you need to do a secondary search before calling it quits.
As Cando says, will save wear on discs.

Oops I misunderstood. I thought all of the information from the certificates was viewable online.  :-[

Thought that was too good to be true.  ::)

Thanks for alerting me to the VICBDM Index now online - it is so much better now - so I ordered and downloaded a certificate just to test it out - very simple.

Great news.  I wish I had known this two weeks ago.  I paid for 24 index pages (at 99c each) using a particular surname hunting for possible relies.  :'(

I wonder though if they might raise the price of images as a result? I always speculated that the relatively low price for images ($25, used to be $20) was because they were charging for index searches?  NSW is $31 and SA $45 (admittedly these are certified copies, rather than just images).

Cando,
Thanks for alerting us to this update. Yes it will certainly save your discs from anymore wear.
What will you do now......housework. ;D ;D
I'm hoping they keep adding more years to the death records, if they do I maybe able to find my OH elusive uncle's death.

Thanks cando for the news  :)

My little gripe might be that you don't seem to get the place of birth on
the marriages like we have on the discs.  Am I missing something?

But still very happy with what we have got  ;D

A few shortcomings....

No places of birth on marriage index.

Can't search with parents' names or places of birth/death.

Can't search with mother's maiden name only.

Always the same....if something works well then make it more cumbersome.  What a procedure to purchase an image ::) ::)......I resent being asked for my name and residential address and email address.  Only name was required on the old system and email address and phone number an option.  I only put a name :-X :-X.   I can't see a facility to collect an image at a later date as was available previously.  I don't need any certs so I have no need to use the new facility.

I think I'll keep on using my discs.  However a good resource for those who don't have them.

Cheers
Cando
