Armistice Day
« on: Wednesday 11 November 15 10:59 GMT (UK) »
Noticed nobody has really mentioned this on here today.
With the silence coming up very shortly I think this live YouTube video of the 'Silence in the Square' is a good watch.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget

Edit: The video was shown live and this is the repeat of it. The commemorations start 24 minutes in.

Clarkey,

Thanks for that.

We unplugged and took RootsChat down for two minutes as a mark of respect.

Was in my local supermarket - with the exception of 2 (young) people, everyone stood and marked the 11th hour in respectful silence.  Went through our antecedents who died, reciting their names (I managed 6, I think I missed one) in my head.

They shall not grow old.
RIP boys.  We will remember.

Thanks for that Clarkey. It was very moving to watch and listen to this video.

2 people have given this the thumbs down - can't believe, it makes me so angry. Whether you have a religion or not today is about remembering and respecting those who sacrificed their lives in World Wars and other conflicts up to the present day.

Lest We Forget.

Lets just hope it was because of it starting 24 minutes in rather than their lack of respect.   :-\

Considering it is Armistice Day, when I went out this morning, I was disappointed to see so few people wearing a poppy today, it was so noticeable  I worked out that the average was only one person in every eight was wearing one. Did anyone else notice this?

Jebber,

I can't say I really noticed, although I can't say I've been really looking out for people's poppies.

I bought two the other day, one for myself and one for Sarah. I managed to drop one of the pins, so that particular poppy not worn in the end (it stayed on the dashboard of my car).

Also noticed very few poppies about, but when I was grow :-\ing up can always remember seeing the "poppy sellers" on just about every street corner.  Was thinking it rather sad that the importance of the day has seemed to diminish with the younger generation as there are fewer and fewer of the "Old Soldiers" left.

Good evening,

I notice the lack of poppies every year now. I take them around our road and get a lot of negatives now.

I also do Handcross High St for the veteran car run, I still get some no's but I also get an awful lot of notes in the box. The same regulars every year wait for me to come along with my poppies and give generously.

I wasn't able to have a day off on the 11th this year due to weight of work and one driver on holiday. But I usually parade the standard at the war memorial where most stop to watch.
