The WW1 record for GAC is interesting.  Lists wife as Florence Bradley and 4 children.  The description of his character is interesting.... as well as his height!!!

It is very interesting. I had to laugh as I expected a big tower of a man. 5'3" and "indifferent" whilst in the army - he was a seaman of course.

For info I found Jessie Baird BRADLEY Born Sunderland 1st quarter 1861 - found Jessie BRADLEY as granddaughter 1871 (g/parents Robert and Mary MITCHELL) and then an assisted voyage to Queensland, Australia 1865 from London though unsure how she got there or how she became a Catlow as yet. Still working on it. Been an interesting couple of days. Thanks.

Hi Bryn,

 Gosh-some great finds going on!

Just a bit unsure on your "assisted voyage to Queensland, Australia 1865" statement. Would she have gone and been back by 1871?

I did notice a Mrs BRADLEY arriving Uk Feb? 1891 with 3 children but tough to tell if it was the correct family group. Young William Herbert does die in Sunderland Dec Qtr.1891.

Good luck.

Maureen

George and Rachel BRADLEY were a married couple.

Marriages Jun 1/4 1875
BRADLEY George
KEEN Rachel Matilda
Kensington
1a/203

There was a child born in QLD

1876   B20249 John Keen BRADLEY
Father George
Mother Rachel Matilda KEEN

Early death-
1876   B10611 John Keen BRADLEY
George BRADLEY
Rachel Matilda KEEN

Don't know if this George BRADLEY is related to your people, but 13 years seems a little young to travel alone.

ADDING. There was a CATLOW family in Qld during the period of interest.
They seemed mostly to be in the Ipswich area which is very well south of Maryborough as a look at the map will show you.

Kay further to the above - I discovered Bertha BRADLEY on the 1911 census in Southwick being shown as 'daughter'.
Head being Edward WOOD b1873, Ferryhill, Durham - Jessie shown as British by parentage though a birth town of Sunderland.

Maybe you should look again at that line ;)

Jessie was born in 1861 before census night :D

At Walworth St, Bishopwearmouth
MITCHELL, Robert, head, aged 65. Clockmaker. Born Sunderland Durham
MITCHELL, Mary, wife, aged 54. Born Shetland
MITCHELL, Johan B. daughter, married, aged 20. Dressmaker. Born Shetland
BRADLEY, James. Son in law, married. aged 25. Brass turner. Born Sheffield.
BRADLEY, Jessie B. g. daughter, aged 2 1/2 months.Born Sunderland
TULLOCH, Catherine. daughter, aged 14 .Born Sunderland

There has been some confusion in answering the questions and the surname for Johan is incorrect.

Here is the marriage of James BRADLEY and Johan

Marriages Mar 1860
BRADLEY  James
TULLOCH  Joanna Barbara
Sunderland  10a 455

So these two are Jessie's parents.

It would look as if Joanna Barbara and Catherine TULLOCH are from a previous marriage of Mary MITCHELL.

Here is their marriage

Marriages Dec 1850

MITCHELL Robert
TULLOCH  Mary
Sunderland  24 362
