Reid Family - Blackburn Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow - Fresh appeal
« on: Friday 13 November 15 14:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I started my search back in 2009, as i had never met my grandparents and wanted to find out more information about them.

Since then, i have found many relatives who have given me information and shown me some amazing photos...even one of my grandfather.

To this day, i still havent seen a photo of my grandmother, so i am hoping that this message will possibly reach people who maybe lived near them on Blackburn Street, or some other distant relatives who have recently started their own searches.....

My grandparents were

William Reid - Born 1907 Died 1965
Helen Reid (nee Kerr)Also known as Nelly - Born 1914 died 1957 at Law Hospital
They lived all of their married life in Kinning Park, Mainly at 119 Blackburn Street.

They had 5 children
William , My father
Angus
Caroline (carol)
Eileen
Annie

There was lots of other reid in this tenements aswell.

Hopefully this will grab the attention of people who remember Blackburn Street, and the reids.

Thanks

My family going back a couple of generations all hailed from Blackburn St KP. There is a picture of my GGran standing, and there are a few women around her. I have no clue as to who they are right enough?

I would have to search and see if I've still got it? but if I find it, you're welcome to check if your relation is amongst them?

Hi mad

Thank you for your reply.

This is exactly the kind of thing I am hoping for, people who have links to Blackburn street, as who knows...they may have known or have photos of my grandparents.

Would be really great if you could find the photo, I would appreciate that very much

Hello there,

I lived in 119 Blackburn Street till the age of 5, when we moved to Knightswood in 1953.   I´m sure my folks would have known your family.  My granny ,granda and their large family also lived in the same tenement.   I can remember it very well.

Best wishes,   Eileen

Hello Paul,

My grandparent were Sammy and Bally Cadden, my parents Johny and Jeanie Simpson, we lived on the ground floor, my grandparents on the first floor. I remember sitting in the staircase at night with cousins who lived in the same street.  The lamplighter would come and light the gas lights in the staircase.
Unfortunately all my family are gone now, and I´m the oldest.   They all passed away before I started researching my family.

Regards,  Eileen
