Last December I was asked if I would take a Gillespie Family Tree DNA test and was offered the test paid for  by the group.  I have accepted it and the first results will be out in a few weeks time.

It is Yahoo group, Gillespie family tree DNA. I am Group 1. Haplo group l2b1. I am kit No 142370 which you should be able to access via FTDNA.  The only way to decide which Gillespie group you belong to is to have the test yourself if you are male or the male who will carry your ancestral dna if you are female.

Hi Gillespie descendants,

I am a descendent of William Gillespie (Born Cork 1735 died 1790?)
and his son William Stawell Gillespie (Born Cork 1776 died 1855)
and his Son Henry Cameron (Born Cork 23/3/1828 died 24/9/1902 Auckland NZ)
and His son Henry Gibbon (Born Thames NZ 1871 died 14/12/1937 Auckland)
and his son John Franklin Rowan (born 1926 Auckland currently living in Australia)

I will be touring around Ireland for a week June10 to 18th 2009.

My Mother (who is very keen on Geneology and my cousin also ) have quite a few family tree records. Mum says there is a statue somewhere in Ireland of Sir Robert Rollo Gillespie I should look up - does anyone know where this is?
I used to have to recite a poem when I was at school about Sir Robert Rollo  I remember, does anyone have a copy?

Help!
I think I'm a descendant of Sir Rollo Gillespie and I'm not sure how to find out. My grandmother, Sylvia (maiden name was Gillespie), always spoke of the statue and I think she said he was an uncle or great uncle of hers (on her father's side). Unfortunately, all of my relatives are deceased who could put the pieces together for me and I was the silly kid who didn't take enough interest in the actual history of our family until it was too late to ask her about it.

My grandmother, Sylvia Gillespie was raised in in Brighton, England but we are not sure if she was born there. Sylvia's mother was Ursula May Shepherd and her father was a doctor. Ursala May had one sister named Dolly. Ursala married a Gillespie, Sylvia's father, but I don't know his name.

Ursala had four children: Rollo, Pam, Sylvia and Barbara.

My grandmother married Stanely Joseph Higgins, who was from Ireland. They moved to Canada over 60 years ago. Sylvia's brother Rollo lived in England his whole life (again, we're unsure of their birthplaces) and was married to Anne. I don't know anything about the other two sisters.

Apparently we still have family in Ireland but I don't know anything about them; I would love to learn more!

If any of this sounds familiar or if you know how I can find out more information I would absolutely love to hear from you!

Thanks!
Kim

Rowlie

I would very much like to have a chat.  I am yet another Rollo Gillespie.  I am not descended from the General, though there is a possibility of a collateral link, but I am often asked about his decendants.  I understand that RRG had no legitimate children, but that his son by Mlle Pecher, also RRG, died in 1843, having had a son, again RRG, in 1830, who died in 1890.  I have met a grand-daughter (Susan) of this third RRG but she is now dead.  She must be a cousin or closer relation of yours.  If you would like to exchange information, please let me know.

That would be great! I'm not sure how to send it privately though. Do you know how?
