Hi Olly73
Checking again the English census 1841 The William that matches your information is at
Old bar house Batley,  Dewsbury Yorkshire
William b 1816 birthplace left blank m [>1832] Mary XXXX b1816 yorkshire occupation Coal Miner
children
Amelia b 1831 Yorkshire
Sarah b  1836  Yorkshire
Abraham b 1839  Yorkshire {the original has an I signifying born Ireland}

also in Havercroft Batley
William and Elizabeth Colbeck b 1786 Yorkshire with
Isaac b 1821
William Colbeck b 1829,
Jannet b 1831,
Elizabeth 1834

also in Spa Hill Batley are
William b 1806 and Hanna b 1816 Colbeck occupation Clothier
Samuel b 1830
William b 1833
Armatage b 1835
Ann 5months b 1841

John Colbeck  b 1786  m Martha b 1786
children
Eli b 1821
Abel b 1826
Martha b 1826

also in Havercroft Batley   I cant work out if this is a duplicate or something gettting muddled by enumerator of census
John Colbeck  b 1787  cloth weaver Martha b 1785
Abel b 1824 son
Abraham b 1827  grandson

I also was given by Genes Reunited cross references to 4 matches for John Colbeck in members family trees . you would need to join to contact these members
John    Colbeck    1786   Batley West Yorkshir...    No    Martin
John    Colbeck    1786   Batley, West Yorkshi...    No    Andy
John    Colbeck    1786             ...    No    Susan
John    Colbeck    1786   Batley,Yorkshire,,En...    No    Darren
John    Colbeck    1787   Batley West Yorkshir...    No    John
John    Colbeck    1787   Batley West Yorkshir...    No    Neil

there are other Colbeck in Batley are Yorkshire born I found no reference to ireland

To sum up your William  Are there Parish records for Batley  Could his parents have been in the armed forces and stationed in Ireland where he was born .  I tried
http://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/world-records/british-army-service-records-1760-1915?lastname=colbeck&_page=1
WO97 chelsea pensioners british army service records 1760-1913  I found
John    Colbeck 1791 Huddersfield Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry - 32nd & 46th Foot 25 years later is 1816, If he signed up there its about 7 miles from Batley
there is also a James Colbeck 1877 Dewsbury Imperial Yeomanry WO128 and a  Tom Colbeck 1887 Dewsbury    9095
But I also found John Colbeck Peninsular Medal Roll 1793-1814
in Collections from Great Britain Year 1793-1814 Regiment 32nd Foot

Try to identify his parents in Batley

Ancestry says your William Colbeck b Ireland 1816 is in the Lawrence Family tree, although I contribute replies to Ancestry I am not a member, so cant look that up for you.

freebmds  Dewsbury Deaths etc
Deaths Jun 1844   (>99%)
COLBECK    William        Dewsbury    22   1
Deaths Dec 1849   (>99%)
Colbeck    William        Dewsbury    22   6
Deaths Sep 1859   (>99%)
COLBECK    William        Dewsbury    9b   272
Deaths Mar 1860   (>99%)
Deaths Sep 1862   (>99%)
Colbeck    William        Dewsbury    9b   294
Colbeck    William        Dewsbury    9b   265
Deaths Jun 1865   (>99%)
Colbeck    William        Dewsbury    9b   343

I end up fairly convinced that John b 1786 or 1787 is Williams father.  To get more evidence you need to find out if the 32 Foot came back to ireland say about for a couple of years possibly reformed as the 46th Foot and more about Johns wife martha and where married etc. and perhaps contacting the tree holders if you are not one of them

So good luck onwards and hoping i am not leading you down a red herring
