The term "institution" was used widely - not just in the sense of a place providing accommodation or care for needy people.

At the time there were many small institutions founded for various purposes, often for philanthropy, increasing knowledge or promoting spiritual welfare.  Some of these had their own premises with royalty or nobility as patrons, others were on a much smaller scale meeting in private houses.

I haven't found out if there was such an institution in Milton Street, but it is quite possible that Mary Whitehead allowed an institution to hold meetings in her drawing room.

Hope this helps.
Philip

Checked one of my relatives on Family Search who lived in a normal household and their home is also listed as an institution in 1841 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQJS-LZX  as was a neighbour of the Whiteheads  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQJ6-DB3

I checked several random records in 1841 London on familysearch and they all came up with Affiliate Record Type - Institution

Maybe it was just a familysearch error when posting these transcripts
