Hello Dorrie,
Thank you for your help, I have not written to the Church yet, will wait a while. Please thank your daughter for me, any help is very much appreciated.
Regarding the trees on Ancestry, they are the same as mine as they are related. But this is a new little snippet of information I have managed to find out. The Findlays are supposed to have had a mine but we can't find out anything about this. In the newspaper article it said that Edward Findlay had his own business 1928-1940 so I am trying to find out if this was anything to do with mining or something completely different. He went to America 1908 and 1910 so we are intrigued about this too. All good fun :)
Best wishes

Nerys,
I lived at Heatherfield up to 1946, it consisted of 4 dwellings of one room each. At one end was Johnny Scally, next was us, the Kerr family, next was the Nayles Family and at the other end was the Wilson family, so it looks like the report on him dying there is not the case. Having said that Black Loch Farm, better known as Lochend is only a short farm track away on the hill overlooking the Black Loch.

A great place to collect old photos and information.....

Better make a coffee first, there is a lot to see, try choosing one year at a time

James.

I have conflicting information as the newspaper report says he died at his Black Loch Farm, Limerigg and his death Certificate has his death as Heatherfield, Longriggend

Could he have died unexpectedly while visiting someone at Heatherfield? It can happen. Does the death certificate give a 'usual residence'? Who was the informant?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

There was only one Church of Scotland in Limerigg, a small mission church. This entry for the parish of Slamannan from the 3rd Statistical Account of Scotland gives quite a bit of background (scroll down for section on Religion) and was written by the Revd A Cameron: http://tompaterson.co.uk/places/stat3_slam.htm   Some more on Slammanan churches here: http://tompaterson.co.uk/slamannan/waugh_7.htm

Thank you for all the replies, I have had a busy week-end at work so will now slowly plough through the information. Edward Findlay's wife Elizabeth also died at their home in Heatherfield a few months prior to his own death. I will have to plan a visit to Edinburgh Archives I think to view Electoral rolls as I don't think they are available to view online.
Kind Regards
Nerys

Hi Nerys,

Unfortunately, the records held at the Church Offices have not given any information on Edward Findlay. Only about the amalgamation of the three churches in 1945 - Slamannan Balquatston, Slamannan St. Lawrence and Slamannan. As previously posted he attended the social evening to welcome the new minister to Slamannan Church as an existing office bearer of that church.

My daughter and her colleagues say that the Session Records of the Church of Scotland are held by the National Archives of Scotland  www.nas.gov/about/101101 and this is where you are most likely to find him mentioned. Don't know if they are available online. Also try the National Library of Scotland  www.enquiries@nls.uk  as they hold Electoral Registers.

He sounds a very interesting man who led a full life.

Sorry I couldn't get any concrete information for you on him.

Good luck with your research and please let me know if you find anything further.

Best wishes,

Dorrie

Hi Dorrie,
Thank you and your daughter so very much for all your help and information regarding Edward Findlay. I will pass your correspondence on to my sister-in-law who is very interested in what info has come to light on her Great Grandfather and a trip to the Archives is a must now that we know there is some info out there to be found. :)
Best wishes
