Identification of Button/broach Please
« on: Tuesday 17 November 15 11:36 GMT (UK) »
Dear List.

You may have noticed lots of postings but we are going through the large amount of wonderful memorabilia left by my father-in-law from years back. This has been triggered by the interesting BBC series from Duxford before Remembrance Day.

So here is another query -
Does anyone know the regiment or anything about this button please.

Is it from WWII or could it be from WWI?

The writing on the back is what I think to be the official government supplier.
FI ?? N & Sons Ld. LONDON

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi, I suspect it may well be a heraldic crest and not military, I can tell you that the maker more than likely will be "Firmin &Sons Ltd"

A great site for button identification. Scroll down to last row (Pierrepont, Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire, Duke and Earl of Kingston)

Thank you all for your replies and the identification.

Yes, the button  is exactly like the web site. I wonder why my in-laws would have that. And it was obviously made into a broach - wonder why?

Does anyone know about what date it could be please. If it isn't from the forces then why would someone have a button like that?
Does 'livery' mean a coachman or some occupation connected to horses?

I am puzzled ??? and think I need more help and ideas. Any more help would be gratefully received.

Should I be posting this somewhere else if it is nothing to do with the war?

Judy

Hi Judy, it may be better on "FH Documents and Artefacts", you could ask a "Mod" to move it if you wish.
Just click the "Report to moderator button" and ask them  :)

Regards
Frank.

Topic has been moved ;)
