William T Bayly in Portsmouth?
« on: Tuesday 17 November 15 13:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.

I am looking for details on William T Bayly, who I think was in Portsmouth at the turn of the 20th century.  He was born in 1872 and died in 1967.  Born I think in London.

I have him on the 1911 census living at 54 Bramshott Rd and I know he married Winifred Kate Nobb in 1905.  But I can find no record of him on the 1891 or 1901 census, nor any other source, so have no idea where he was.  He was a builder and was responsible for building quite a bit in Portsmouth.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Tony.

Thanks for that, some details I couldn't find.  I have to admit I got the year wrong for his marriage.  His age and hers is wrong in that 1901 census though.  That may have been enough to confuse the issue.

Interesting that he was born in Portsmouth.  The family are certain it was London.

His age and hers is wrong in that 1901 census though.

Just to confirm that the familysearch transcript agrees with the census original so probably an enumerator error  :)

Thank you everyone I am grateful for your help.  It would appear that the family have got the Bayly history wrong and I have maybe been a little too rigid in my search terms.

You have now given me a few leads to follow up.

Many thanks again. :)
