Where was Elizabeth born?
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 10:42 GMT (UK) »
This is a tricky problem but I would like your thoughts on exactly where gt gt Gran was born please.
William Davies married Elizabeth JONES 16 May 1855 Michaelstone super Avon Glamorgan I have the certificate it says her father was Evan Jones a labourer the witnesses were John Roberts and William Jones .
Censuses after the wedding have her birth place as follows:
1861 RG9/4083 fo37 p17     Carmarthen Llanfyngle Trecowye ?
1871 RG10/5426   fo31 p 7  it looks like they have mixed her and her husband's place of birth as he is from Carmarthenshire Langynog and she from Narbeth Pems which is where he was from on all other censuses we find him on
1881 RG11/5337 fo 67 p24   Carm St Clares
1891 RG12/4459 fo17 p8   Carmarthenshire, Wales

I can see an Elizabeth the right age with parents Evan and Rachael on the 1851 census HO107
2469 fo258 p2     Llanon, Carmarthenshire

Is it possible that I have found her? Llanon seems the wrong side of Carmarthen to me but I do not know the county well enough to locate all these places so don't know how near the mentioned places are can someone with local knowledge help pleas?

ouch there is a second Elizabeth with father EVAN on the 1841 census this one is in  Llanegwad
how does that fit with her later given birth places please?
The oldest daughter of Evan and Rachel on the 1841 census  HO107 2469 fo258 p2     Llanon, Carmarthenshire was Sarah and with Evan and Rachel in 1851 is a grandson David Rodgers Now there is a marriage in 1844 with a David RODGERS and Sarah Jones in the same qtre marrying in Narbeth is this a clue? You will recall my Elizabeth married William Davies from Narbeth.
Is it just coincidence or have I found Elizabeth?  Two sisters from Carmarthenshire marrying with a connection to Narbeth? What do others think please?

Hi
Shouldn't this topic be on Carmarthenshire or Wales General rather than on Caernarvonshire Board ?

Hi

:( Your posts, unfortunately, have one or two typos incl 1891 "f017" s/be "F071".
This has made it difficult to verify your "results".

Suffice it to say that I like the 1861 find for a couple of reasons.
Elizabeth has children "Rachel" and "Evan" as per her parents, plus "Margret".

David ROGER (not RODGERS) noted as being "Mas son"
This him?Birth 1859 QMar Carmarthen 11a 646

Another "nice" clue Llangynog and St Clears (St Clares) in same part of country.

Agree it should be Carmarthen I am having a lot of problems with my eyes just now so many apologies
But I don;t really follow what you are saying. I know the 1961 ,1971, 1881 and 1891 censuses are all for my Elizabeth what I need to know is from the places of birth shown on the censuses where was she really born and is it possible she is one of the Elizabeth's I have found on the two 1851 censuses or not but thank you for your interest. I'll ask a mod. to change the board

The Evan Jones, age 70 in the '51 Census, with an Elizabeth Jones, age 22, born Llanon is a "Farmer of 52 acres".

The Evan Jones, father of the bride on the 1855 marriage is a "labourer" - doesn't fit with the  '51 Census, unless something drastic had happened?

good point so was the other Evan with Ada in 1841 so neither look good ah well it was worth a tryI can;t see any other Elizabeth's with father Evan on the 1841 or 1851 censuses in Carmarthenshire ND THERE are just too many Elizabeths in glamorgan umm must try Elizabeth jones born Camarthenshire in Glamorgan.
Thanks Hanes Teulu

There are 25 Elizabeths, born 1830 + - 2yrs, father Evan, County of Birth Carmarthenshire

I think the PoB on the 1861 census might be an attempt by the enumerator (English) to capture "Llanfihangael Abercowin". This is just outside St Clears - to the east. I appreciate the '61 Census is "Llanfyngle" and looks like "Trecowyn". But looking at it closely it might be "abercowyn" with a small, not capital, "a").

I have access to the Parish registers for Llanfihangael Abercowin - so will have a look.
