Help with place name and mother's maiden name?
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 13:29 GMT (UK) »
I'm struggling with this 1859 Scottish death record - the death took place in New Monkland but I can't read the place name from underneath the date (1859 June second 9h 30m ?m - ? )

I'm also struggling with the maiden name of the mother in the parents column:

James Sommerville Labourer Deceased Margaret ? Deceased

Finally the cause of death too - any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

I think the cause of death is Dysentery 3 weeks.
Mothers name - Margaret Irvine?
Place name = Muirhouse?
Bownass - Lancashire & Westmorland
Hoggarth - Lancashire & Westmorland
Jackson- Lancaster
Waller - Dent, Yorkshire dales
Omerod - Lancashire
Redburn - Lancashire
Evans - Hereford

Thanks Trishanne - I don't know of a Muirhouse in New Monkland but I think you're right about house and I'm now thinking it's actually Poorhouse.  I think you're right about dysentery too.  Irvine looks plausible but I can't find any births to a James and Margaret Irvine (of course it's in that time period when it's luck of the draw).  There was a birth for Archibald I thought could be the right one but the mother's name doesn't match - still could be right and his son just got it wrong on the death certificate but it's difficult without the proof.  Thanks again.
