Christopher Dixon Dickinson: Death of wife and subsequent marriage 1845-49
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello I am looking for help, either look ups or ideas where to look, for events in the life of Christopher Dixon Dickinson (sometimes Dickenson) born 1817 in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. Father, Joseph, an auctioneer.
In 1841 census Christopher is in Hull and recorded as a Spirits merchant. The Dickinson family, in Louth, Lincolnshire, appear to have had (and on occasion lost) money.
In 1843 CDD married Caroline Laverack in Hull. She was the daughter of Martin Laverack a corn merchant.
CDD and Caroline Laverack had two children: Caroline Dickinson in 1844 and Joseph Dickinson in October 1845. Both born in Hull.
In the 1851 census, CDD is living in London with both children and a new wife. The new wife is Ann Chapman Hooper nee Herring, the widow (1835) of naval Lieutenant John Tancock Hooper.
CDD and Ann's first child Christopher Robert Dickinson was born in London on July 31st 1848.
This gives a small window - October 1845 until end of 1847 (assuming they were married when Ann became pregnant) - for the death of Caroline (Laverack) Dickinson and the marriage of CDD and Ann Chapman Hooper. I can find neither. I also cannot find Ann Chapman Hooper and her daughter Charlotte Agnes Cooper (b 1834) in the 1841 census.
Something is amiss and CDD in 1861 census is listed, with Ann, as a visitor in her household. In between he has been in the workhouse - they also have more children.
Any ideas? Or suggestions?
Thanks

Hello
Thanks so much for your help. There are 4 possible deaths that I have, this is one but....I have no reason to place them in Lambeth, the other London records are all in the St Pancras area. Maybe the only solution is to buy this certificate and see who reported her death?

You star! Thanks so much. Please share that skill...is that from searching newspapers? I have yet to develop that art......now to find the marriage of Christopher and Ann Hooper and work out what went wrong. He is admitted to the St Pancras workhouse in 1859 and dies there in 1863, he is with Ann but she is Hooper and he is a visitor in 1861. Daughter Caroline is back in Hull with her paternal aunt, can't find Joseph or that marriage.
Big thanks, again!

The chances are that they didn't marry and that she just took his name in the census and the baptisms.
