Look up request
« on: Wednesday 18 November 15 23:05 GMT (UK) »
I'm wanting a look up for Hettie (Hetty) Jane Ladlow she was born in 1875 and registered in Rotherham, I've found her on the 1881 it says born in New York Yorkshire, the 1901, 1911 census living in Killamarsh born Harthill and married to Charles Emson (Emsen). I'm trying to find her christening or parents names on her marriage it says father George and on the census it states she was living with her mother Elizabeth who was born 1851 Bishop Norton Lincs. I cannot find her christening anywhere. Thanks

Maybe she never had one.

You already have her parents names by the sound of it - George from the marriage and Elizabeth from the census  :)
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

This could be parents marriage if Elizabeth came from Lincs.

Jun 1873 Caistor - which covers Bishop Norton
Mary Curry
George Ladlow
John Oliver
Elizabeth Skinn
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

I can't find the 1881 entry you mention - what was Elizabeth's marital status at that time - widow or married?  Where were they living in 1881/1891

I'm finding it strange as in the other census Elizabeth Ladlow is living with her mother Mary Ladlow at 21 it states she's single but in the next census it states she is a widow but I can't find the marriage and Mary Ladlow is then Bell with Grandchildren living with her. In the 1891 census I cannot find Hettie living with her family or anywhere else.

Yes in 1871 Mary Bell is Ladlow and is living in Bishop Norton, all the other family members match.
Thanks

I think that Mary Ladlow in the 1871 census is possibly Elizabeth's mother in law

Freebmd has an 1845 marriage in Caistor between a Mary Bell and a Robert Ladlow

Have you checked the 1861 census for Elizabeth?  If she was born as Ladlow then she cannot have married and Hettie is illegitimate

The only certain way to be sure is to buy a copy of Hettie's birth cert
