Once you have the marriage with his father's name you can search census for him then look for a birth here......

Looks good Millie.

Strange none of his offspring are named after any of his parents nor himself?

Hi

Bought credits from FindMyPast and viewed 1939 register. According to that Fred was born on the 7th December 1896, so we have the right death!
Sadly, you don't see a place of birth, but his occupation was a 'plate layer' - wonder if that helps find him in 1911!

This may help but the birth of his children (especially 1st born) may give a better idea as the time frame is a lot a he may have changed occupation from his earlier days.

Food for thought - Steele was quite a common name in Cumberland (as it was then) Quite often it can appear under the spelling Steel  There is a baptism of a Fred Steel 18 February 1897 Christ, Silloth, Cumberland to George Steel and Jane which may be worth further investigation.
Birth registered Q1 Jan/Feb/March 1897 - Wigton - 10b 581

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NXQ2-PHK

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2FW7-BVK

IF that proved to be the correct match then he would appear on the 1901 Census Abbey Holme Wigton Cumberland.

RG13 Piece 4876 Folio 45 Page 16

George Steel  41 Born Scotland 1860.
Jane Steel  42 Born Houghton, Cumberland 1859.
John Steel  20 George Steel  19
Elizabeth Steel  17 Edward Steel  12
Thomas J Steel  10 Annie M Steel  8
Lily Steel  7 Fred Steel  4
Gladys Steel  8 months.

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSVL-B85

George Steel must have died between 1901 - 1911 - there is a death registration at Wigton - Q1- Jan/Feb/March 1907 - 10b 405 -  Mother Jane remarried  to Thomas Bryson - Q4 - 1907 - Wigton - 10b 1047. Check that family out in Abbey Holme 1911.

Steel(e) Frederick Arthur G born in Chertsey (Surrey)?

But there's a Fred STEEL Q1 1897 in Wigton district. (actually in Silloth or Holme Low)

Stepfather Thomas BRYSON was a Platelayer. Father George STEEL a Farmer.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
