Sandra: Those newspaper articles are amazing! We can't thank you enough! They've helped us fill in the gap we had for Berta's life in 1917-1919, whilst she was back in the USA. Thank you  :)

The Topeka State Journal - 7 th February, 1918.

You're very welcome, pleased to help.  I also noticed a small piece which mentioned Vernon E Babcock of Walnut Kansas, appears he was a survivor of a steamship which was torpedoed, survivors were landed at Buncranna and Larne in Ireland.

 I was struck by the name having come across a Bertha Babok (variously transcribed)
  b. russia

 She married in   Theodosia in 1895 to George Feldman clothier
Their children were born in Manchester +Dundee

aged 39 in Glasgow Scotland  census 1901

Is Babok /Babcock a common name  maybe they were cousins ?

Not sure if your interested in this. But a photo collection of BERTA R. BABCOCK has come up at auction. It is from her time as a missionary in Yokohama. Could be of interest from the family who was looking into her history.

Japanese, early 20th century. Photographs, negatives, and postcards all belonging to the missionary during her time in Yokohama, several examples of Ms. Babcock with members of the mission as well as photographs gifted to Ms. Babcock.
