010254 Alfred Dewhirst, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, was granted a commission in the West Yorkshire Regiment on 25 September 1917 per the RAOC medal roll which is also annotated "...to be administered by Air Mins".

FindMyPast has an RAF officer's record for him which shows that he transferred from the West Yorkshire Regiment in early 1918. Address 184 Tichbourne Road, West Bowling.

Thanks everyone. For some reason I'm not getting email notifications of the replies (admin?).
Alfred looks like a good bet and West Bowling would be a good place.
Dewhursts did come over to Yorkshire from Lancashire and the name seems to have been corrupted to Dewhirst somewhere along the way.
Thanks again
Dave

Not sure Suzi,
the lanyard suggests artillery and he was a Yorkshire man I think. Thanks anyway
Dave

crossed messages MaecW that looks more like it.
Thanks Dave

The idea that a lanyard is RA is nonsense.  All cap badges wore lanyards to put clasp knives on.
