Looking for Birth John Ramsay 1918 ,Ferry-Port-on-Craig

I am searching for any details about  John RAMSAY 
Born 21.11.1918  Ferry-Port-On-Craig
Died  25/11/2002
Occupation - House Painter
Parents Robert Ramsay and Chrstine Briggs
Married  Jeane McInroy

He served as a Gunner in Royal Artillary .
Would there be a Headstone photo on line.

Thanks for any help as I have not been able to find a birth on line - my first search in Scotland!

I wonder did you use the "soundex" option in your search for his birth as surname may well have been written as "Ramsey"?
Have you also considered widening your year search by a few yrs as he may have lied about his age to "join up"?

How do you know he was b Ferryport? Just wondering?

Do you know if he had siblings & their names? EDIT & birth yrs?

Do you know when Robert and Christine married? If after John's birth he may be registered under his mother's surname. People sometimes made slight 'amendments' to birth and marriage dates to hide illegitimacy.

Looking on Scotland's People for births for a John Ram*y between 1915 and 1920 in Fife (presuming he was born in Ferry-Port-On-Craig) throws up 6 matches.

If you widen change the date range even further but ensure you only get one page of results - you only pay for one page no matter if there is one result or 20 ... just in case he fibbed or was unaware of his exact dob.

His parents were Robert Ramsay  and Christine  Briggs and the birth date is exact and place of birth the same.

My friend has these details but I was just looking for anything extra I could provide for her.

Right - curiosity got the better of me and I used up a credit to view the results of my search on SP. There is a 1918 birth for a John Ramsay in Ferry-Port-On-Craig. There is no image and you have to order a copy of the certificate.

An alternative might be is to request a lookup from someone who may be going to New Register House.
