Hind in Fenton
« on: Thursday 26 November 15 03:31 GMT (UK) »
If a person were a farm worker in Fenton and died approximately 1850 (not found in 1851 census), where would he be buried?  Specifically, I am looking for Thomas MacKenzie, born 1793 and where he is buried.  I appreciate all the help.  I have looked at FreeReg to no avail.

Thank you.

Scott

Scotland's People should be the way forward here. I have done a search 1841-1851 for OPR burials in East Lothian for Thomas Mackenzie; I have tried surname variants and forenames beginning with T. None of these yield any results at all.
Reference to these pages gives some clue why not: there simply are very few burial registers as many were never kept, and survival has been poor for those that did exist.

Hi Scott,

I could not find any burial info for Thomas Mackenzie either, if the was still at West Fenton, this would come under Dirleton Parish, so maybe buried there, but not sure if there would be a gravestone etc. I have found details of his marriage and his 5 children. I suspect there maybe more children, as there seems a big gap of 9 years between 2nd and 3rd children.

I know of one other child - Agnes, born 1832.  I found her via marriage records where is indicates the parents are Thomas MacKenzie and Catherine Edington.  For this couple there were various spellings of Edington.  You are right, it is likely that there are other children because of the long gap.

I tried SP as well as FreeReg.  I had no luck - that is why I was looking for a burial ground near Fenton.  There was the hope in the off chance that there might be a marker.

I appreciate the help.

hi Scott,

I already have a birth in 1832, and cannot find her on LDS Family Search site. On the marriage record that you found, could it be Maggie rather than Aggie.

If I could type I would be dangerous.  Agnes is shown born in 1835 in the 1841 Fenton, Dirleton Census under the name of Thomas McKindgie
