The Stanley St family looks like a completely different set, with parents William and Christina.

I see your William had a middle name beginning with R, so I wonder if this is his grave -- if so, there's even more children -- but William would not have been Albert's father and the timing would be tight for him to have been George's --

Thank you - I think!!!  This is like swimming through treacle!

Yes indeed that will be the correct William (father). His maternal family name was Readyhoff (older Reddihoof) which is where the 'R' comes from. Both he and his wife were from Gretton, Northamptonshire.

I have looked into the BMD indexes for both infants you mentioned. George was registered in JAS 1884. William died in January 1884 so Sarah could easily have been pregnant at the time.
Alfred could I suppose have been an afterthought. If so, it would take her tally of known infant deaths to five.

The one issue that does intrigue is that both these infant births and deaths are registered in Billesdon. William and Sarah were flitting between several properties in the Humberstone Road area of the town in the 1870s and 1880s - and I am aware that part of the Billesdon registration area (North Evington) was hived off to Leicester District in 1892. However all the other births and deaths I've seen have been registered in Leicester up to that time.

I guess it will need the actual certificates to confirm one way or the other!

Kind regards

Alan

Sarah Ann R Pridmore m John Tarry in 1890; they are with Sarah's mother and younger sibs in the 1891 census.

Another possibility is that Sarah Ann R could have been the mother of George and/or Albert. She would have been in her teens/early twenties at the times of their births so it's quite possible. I wonder if anyone has access to baptisms records for this area?

So as far I can see we have, for (almost) definite:
William and Sarah m 1866
children: Sarah Ann R 1867
Mary Craxford 1869
Robert Craxford 1870/71
John Robert 1872
Florence 1875
Florence 1877
William 1879
Ada 1881

then possibilities for George 1884 and Albert 1887.

Does this seem about right? Certainly that list fills in the gaps in the fertile years!

Yes, I would agree with that listing.

After your encouragement, I decided to invest in a copy of the Welford Road burials this morning. That did confirm for me that Sarah Pridmore (who was known as Sally to the family) was buried there on Feb 15th 1896. Sarah's final address appears to be Stone Bridge Street which is also where John and Sarah Tarry lived at the time of the 1901 census.

One thing I hadn't realised (doesn't apply to this family but did to that of her cousin) is that it is a valuable source of stillbirth information.

I'll append a note to this thread  when I get the next tranche of certificates through.

Oh well, it's on to Sarah's next youngest sister now (she had seven sisters altogether!!)

Many thanks for your help

Alan

btw: I wonder if Sarah Ann R Pridmore had been saddled with the Readyhoof name as well!?!
Mind you, she didn't last long either. She was resident in Welford Road by December 1906

That Welford Rd disc has been one of the most invaluable resources for me in my tree-untangling! It's well worth the money!

Even easier (and slightly cheaper) as it's available as a downloadable zip file!

Cheers Alan
