FindMyPast 1939 Register, a Specific Street
« on: Sunday 29 November 15 09:08 GMT (UK) »
I need the decision of the Moderators on this one.

I have just paid FindMyPast for a specific street in Liverpool and am happy with the results. Even a little surprise!!
Can I publish the names of the occupants in other houses, and their address, to see if anyone can expand my knowledge of my family ?

My non-mod point-of-view:

RootsChat forbids the mentioning of living, or potentially living, people.
Those assumed to be still living are redacted on the 1939 National Register.

Ergo, if they are mentioned by name then they must have died!
And therefore it's OK to name them - just like a census. ;D

Yes! No problems with that. But I will still wait for an official response. Thank you!

I suppose my worry is:
 Am I publishing copy-righted material ?

It would be copyright if you just cut and pasted, but I can't see how it would be copyright if you phrased your question as:

"I'm looking for information about the Green family who lived in The High Street, Cambridge in the late 1930s. The family consisted of .............., all who have since died."

Phrased like that it could have come from a variety of sources.

If you use the advanced search and type in the name of the Street and Location, it will list all of the names but not the addresses. Clicking on the preview will tell how many others are closed.

E.G. - New Hall Lane in Liverpool C.B. listed my family and all others in the road.

i.e. it is not a problem to mention the names of people in a street.

You could always message one of them and ask them.
