Abram/Abraham Drew of Plumstead
« on: Sunday 29 November 15 16:53 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for a Mary Drew who married James Spence in 1756 at St. Mary Magdalene in Woolwich. I have no birth dates for her, so presuming she was born in the 1730-1740. Later records note her as having been born in Plumstead, a section in Greenwich district. I am looking for her parents, and one prospect is Abram (or Abraham) Drew who is noted as working at the shipyards and having at least two children, both sons named George, the one born May 1725 and died Dec 1725 at Deptford St. Nicholas, and a second son George born early in 1726.

I am also wondering if this Abram/Abraham might be the same fellow as the Abraham Drew who married Elizabeth Judd in 1734 in East Wickham (sharing a chapel with St. Nicholas Plumstead? Perhaps, a second marriage?

Final question - is the St. Nicholas for Deptford the same as the St. Nicholas for Plumstead?

Any insight on to this family would be appreciated.

If you Google St. Nicholas Deptford and St. Nicholas Plumstead you will find images for both churches.

Hi,
They were actually married at St Nicolas Plumstead (18 Apr 1756) not at Woolwich. The banns were read in both St Nicolas Plumstead and St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich (James' home parish). The witnesses were Abraham Drew and John Hull. So [an] Abraham fits in somewhere.
