Innes family
« on: Tuesday 08 December 15 06:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for any information on the Innes family as I have hit a brick wall lol.  My grandfather was John Thomas Innes 1914 - 199, his father was Peter Innes or Peter s b Innes 1800s onwards both were born in banfinshre or Moray.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Melanie Innes

Had a quick look at Scotlands People and I couldn't see a birth for a John Thomas Innes that ties in with your info

Did your grandfather marry in Scotland?   If he did his marriage cert should list both his parents names

Moray Council has a free site called Libindx which allows you to search for individuals. The information comes from sources such as newspapers, parish registers, monumental inscriptions etc. If you have not tried it, have a look.

Just a thought - are you sure John Thomas was born in Scotland???

There is a tree on Anc that lists a John Thomas Innes as born on   4 Nov 1916 in Tynemouth, Northumberland with father Peter Innes.   Checking on FreeBMD the mother's maiden name was Dixon.   FreeBMD also lists a marriage in the Tynemouth Registration District of a Peter S B Innes to Mary J Dixon    Dec Qtr 1915 Tynemouth    10b   710

Kay

Edit -Scotlands People lists a Peter Smith Bis Innes born in 1896 in Aberdeen

Also found reference to a Lance Corporal Peter Smith Bissit Innes
Military Year  1914-1920 who was in the Northumberland Fusiliers   Regimental Number 240139 and awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal

And on the 1939 Register a Peter S B Innis born 1896 with a Mary J Innis were living in Luton, Bedfordshire??

Does any of this relate to your family??

So pleased it appears to be working out!

You really need the marriage cert for Peter S B Innes and Mary J but as the Peter's initials are so unusual checked the birth of Peter Smith B Innes in Aberdeen in 1896

Peter Smith Bisset Innes born 6 Feb 1896 at 36 Berry St Aberdeen parents Robert Innes - Labourer and Barbara Innes (maiden name Sutherland)  His parents are listed as marrying on 26 May 1893 in Aberdeen     By 1901 the family look to be living in Gateshead

Good luck and come back if you are stuck
