Hi, many years ago I paid for a search of Mary Gavin who was living with a Mary Barrett in the townland of Ballygreaney Ballinasloe County Galway, this person sent me copies of 1901 and 1911 censuses but have now lost them, so did a search on http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie/ but had no luck so tried Ancestry again no luck. Could the records have been forged or have some records not been submitted to the said search sites? am really baffled :-\

You haven't given any details re: birthyear/birthplace etc.  The 1901 has 52 entries for the name Mary Gavin living in Galway

Post should be on the Galway board so will ask moderator to move it for you

Thanks CaroleW,
The house and land was owned by the Barrett family (Mary) who died and the house and land was passed on to Mary Gavin, in 1911 Mary Barrett would have been 70 and Mary Gavin around 55, the story I was told from a local from Ballygraney was that the Barretts took Mary Gavin in when she was with child and she worked for them till they both passed on, Mary died in Ballygraney in 1941 as I have her death cert. I had her on both 1901 and 1911 but lost them so like I have said I have searched all the Mary Gavins in galway on both censuses but have had no luck at all :-[

I only looked for a 60 y.o. in 1901 because of .. "in 1911 Mary Barrett would have been 70"

Well the census states she was 70 in 1911!

I was recently told I think so far outside the box that there isn't a box big enough!
I think it was a compliment   :D

You have to take irish ages on the census with a pinch of salt, often they would give the wrong age, because I think of the English rule.
