Arrowsmith Search
« on: Friday 11 December 15 15:10 GMT (UK) »
I am needing help the search around Joseph Arrowsmith born in Whorlton area, to John Arrowsmith and Mary (surname unknown.) He was christened in Whorlton 03Jun 1743. He married (1) Ann Goodburn of Hamsterley 15May 1773. Ann was buried 22Aug 1796 in Staindrop. Joseph then married (2)Mary Foster/Forster of New Biggs 06Jun 1799 in Winston. I have traced daughter Mary (02Jan 1780) and son George (baptised 28Dec 1783 in Staindrop) with his wife Ann. Not sure of a daughter Jane (24Nov 1776) with this same wife? He had a daughter Sarah with second wife Mary, born 20Aug 1800 and baptised 05Oct 1800. It is possible that Joseph's father John originated in Sedgefield but I cannot find any information or proof. Can anyone help on Joseph's parentage? Or any preceding generation? George (1783) appears to be the George who married Dinah Dent in 1805 in Romaldkirk (not as I previously thought - George born 1752). Many thanks.

Joseph who as you say was born in 1743 Whorlton had other siblings, all born in Whorlton to John and Mary-they were John 1738 who must have died as there was another John born in 1739-followed by Hannah 1740, and then your Joseph 1743. There are two marriage between a John and a Mary pre this first birth in 1738, and they are Mary Rippon married to John Arrowsmith in 1736 Houghton-le-Skerne, and Mary Ovington married to John Arrowsmith 1733 at Trimdon.
regards.
