my grandfather was gunner william edward mayes and he served ww1 as a gunner in horse artillery.
his service number was 126453 but I can find no details of him.
can anybody give me some help and/or guidance please?

I can't see his enlistment on line. Unfortunately about 60% of World War One records were destroyed during the Blitz in WW2, his may be amongst them.
