Marriage to Ethel Gould or Millbourn

In the December quarter of 1923, registered in Wandsworth district, George Sadd married either Ethel Gould or Millbourn. In electoral rolls, they are George Jules and Ethel Lydia Sadd.

In his probate record in 1965, his wife is Ethel Lydia.

There is an Ethel Lydia Millbourn born 1894 Streatham in the 1911 census but she married a Walter Alfred Gould in 1915 and she died in 1957 Ethel L Gould.

Can anyone help me find out more about Ethel, please?

An Ethel L Gould did die in 1957 - in Herefordshire but as there is no full middle name shown - how do you know it was Lydia

Maybe - maybe not.  The 1915 marriage was just Walter Alfred - no third name

On the 1915 marriage cert - Walter Alfred is Walter Alfred THOMAS Gould - so well done Kanskar .  Looks as though they divorced and re-married others in the same year

I have just seen a public tree in ancestry for a Walter Alfred Thomas Gould which gives the two marriages for him. One of the sources gives a link to Surrey electoral registers in 1934, and he is with a Grace Mabel at that time. From an ancestry suggested record, she died Grace Mable Gould in 1973 with birth date of 3 March 1899, and an ancestry suggested record lead me to a marriage for Grace M Foreman in 1923 to Walter A T Gould.

So Ethel Lydia Milbourn married Walter Gould in 1915. Then within a few years they divorced (?) which was quite unusual in those days, and they both married someone else in 1923, she to George Jules Sadd and he to Grace Foreman; and the death registration I saw in 1957 for an Ethel L Gould was nothing to do with them.

If this is correct, and thank you very much for your help, I still wonder why the marriage register states for the spouse's surname:   Gould or Milbourn.

She will have remarried under her previous married name (ie) Gould but the register will also shown her birth surname (ie) Milbourn

Lots of marriage entries show more than one surname in those circumstances
