Looking for Elisha Livermore in 1851
« on: Monday 14 December 15 17:55 GMT (UK) »
Elisha Livermore was baptised in Great Chesterford on 21 Oct 1787. He married Sophia Mason in Stepney on 3 Nov 1848. A newspaper account of their marriage says he was for many years a waiter at the Crown at Chesterford and Sophia was a chamber maid at the same place. The 1841 census shows both of them as servants in the same household - presumably the Crown. There is only one death of an Elisha Livermore that I can find - Q1 1861 in Newmarket district - to early for an age to be on the index. There is a death for a Sophia also in Newmarket district but age is a bit out even allowing for rounding her age in 1841 (she is listed as age 40).
Can anyone find Elisha and Sophia in 1851?
I assume they moved to Cambridgeshire rather than stay in Essex or Stepney.

I've now managed to find the widowed Sophia in 1861 in Newmarket. She is with Mary and William Harris and family. She is listed as mother in law. William Harris married Mary Mason in Newmarket on 29 Oct 1835. When Sophia married Elisha Livermore her father was listed as William Mason, so mason was her maiden name not that of a deceased husband.

But still nothing for Elisha and Sophia in 1851.

Thank you for the 1871 information. That death was the one I found and think it can only be her. She must have knocked a bit off her age in 1841, because a stated age of 40, would make year of birth between 1797 and 1801. But being a servant she is unlikely to have completed the form herself. Perhaps the owner of the Inn just guessed.
