What became of the sons of John Gallagher?
« on: Wednesday 16 December 15 14:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I can locate my Grandfather's brother, John Gallagher aged 53, living in 42 Sterling Place, Kings (Brooklyn) in the 1940 US census. I can also locate his death on 24th November 1946,while still living at the same address.
I am having trouble finding any useful information on his 3 sons:
(*)Gallagher born 1922 in New York
(*) Gallagher born 1924 in New York
(*) Gallagher born 1928 in New York
I have found bits and pieces on people with these names, but nothing where I can say, this is definitely my mother's first cousin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Paul.

Not quite what your looking for - It looks as if the cousin William McGowan (shown with family on 1920 census) married Anne Gallagher  - (Delia or Bridget McGinley who married John Gallagher was living with the McGowan family in 1920)

1940 Raleigh Street New York, Kings, New York.

William McGowan  33 Born NY. Investigator.  Anne McGowan  35
Daughter McGowan  7 Robert McGowan  3 (Deceased)
Son  McGowan  1

Social Security Applications and Death Index gives the son Robert McGowan born 10 December 1936 - Brooklyn KIngs NY. Father - William E McGowan Mother Name Anne Gallagher. Robert passed away 11 May 2003

FIND A GRAVE

Robert McGowan - Burial: Saint Marys Cemetery  Manahawkin Ocean County New Jersey.

Hi Sandra, thanks very much for the new information, and for your time and effort collating it. I think you would agree with me, there isn't a lot of information 'out there' on the 3 sons, or if there is I certainly can't find it!
Thanks again.
Take care.
Paul.

You're very welcome - as we try to come forward there are not as many records to help, it does get more difficult.  An obituary or two wouldn't go amiss  :P

According to the Brooklyn NY Daily Eagle, Bridget Gallagher was still at 42 Sterling Place in 1951:

GALLAGHER - On February 7, 1951, BRIDGET, of County Donegal, Ireland, at her residence, 42 Sterling Place, dear mother of Xxxx, Xxxxx and Xxxxxxx; sister of Sheila Boyle, Ann, James, Daniel and John McGinley. Solemn Requiem Mass Church of St. Augustine Saturday, 10 a.m.

42 Sterling Place was then put up for immediate possession.

Hi gaffy, thanks very much for the new information. I feared this thread had ground to a halt!
I remember being told as a child that 'John Gallagher bought a 3 storey house in Sterling Place for $2800'.

Thanks again.
Paul.
