Hello Grodling
Where did the approximate dates for birth and death come from?
What religious denomination was he?

Link for Ireland Civil Registration Indexes (free to search)   He was born before Birth Reg commenced but you may be able to find a death reg for him.

Link explains details included on a Death Cert

Thanks for your reply. Patrick had a son who was born in Nenagh in 1840. On his son's marriage certificate [1872] his father is shown as deceased and a mercantile clerk. Limerick looks a likely place for a mercantile clerk....! The dates are as stated "about" - clutching at straws I know but all other avenues have been negative. Oh the family were RC.
Happy Christmas.
