Marriage lookup request please for THOMAS FORD in Sussex
« on: Saturday 19 December 15 15:13 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Ford, born 1846 Norton, married Mary J ??? in the 1860's?
The ancestry I'm chasing is through their son Frank who was born in 1886 Seaford Sussex.

I found a marriage of 1868, Lewes RD, which might be the one(?), but can't get any other information to confirm that.

I believe their first born was Anna, in 1870 Denton Sussex.

Regards.

The easiest way would be to get either Anna or Frank's birth certificate as that would give their mother's maiden name.

The cenuses give him as being born in Bishopstone, (a village just outside Seaford) not Norton which I believe is West Sussex near Chichester.

Added: There is something odd about the 1871 census when it gives Norton, Chichester and then Lewes, Newhaven. I think they may mean Norton Farm, Bishopstone. If you look at the first page of the census the word Parish has been crossed out.

Thanks to both groom and cathy.
That confirms the marriage and also puts Thomas in Bishopstone as I suspected.

Bob

I don't know if you know the area, Bob, but there is a lovely church in Bishopstone. It is thought to be  the oldest Saxon Church in Sussex.

Thanks for info from all.
I'll need to check on the American side with colleague who I'm doing this work for.

Cheers,
Bob
