Marriage 6 April 1858 Mold of John HUGHES and Ellen ROBERTS
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 15:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Is anyone able to provide any further information regarding the marriage at St Mary's Church, Mold of John Hughes of Llanrhaiadr and Miss Ellen Roberts on 6th April 1858?

(Should have posted this in Flintshire, sorry)

I'm missing the marriage of a John Hughes, born 1813, parents John and Elizabeth of Alltgoch Llangedwyn / Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and wondered if this is him? He was:
1841 at Alltgoch, single, age 25
1851 Location unknown
1861 at Alltgoch, married (no mention of his wife) and a Gardener (pos. on WWWynn Estate)
1871 a widower.
1872 buried at Llangedwyn (no burial record of a Hughes who might be his wife).
Thanks, Jon
Hughes - Llangedwyn, Llanfechain, Llanrhaiadr, Llansilin
Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
Davis - Caterham, Surrey
Mitchell - Windygates, Fife
Hayes - Radcliffe
Edwards - Llanyblodwell

The marriage announcement is in the newspapers, but with no more details than you already have.
Banns are on FindMyPast, but I don`t subscribe to that.

Does this say they were both from Bethesda?Wouldn't that rule it out?

Should say it was printed in August, and looks like the marriage was in  in July.

Oops, sorry, thanks for correction.I could be wrong again, but I suspect from the spelling as "Llanrhaiadr" in the report that it is Llanrhaiadr in Kinmerch near Ruthin(confusingly also sometimes Llanrhaeadr yng Nghinmeirch).

Hi,
the problem is there are a few John Hughes of Llangedwyn/Llanrhaidr, its finding something to show/dismiss any particular one that's the problem.
The Wrexham and Denbighshire Advertiser, and Cheshire, Shropshire, Flintshire, and North Wales Register is where I saw the Mold announcement earlier today.
My Welsh isn't very good but the Bethesda announcement seems to be August, perhaps a bit late for an April wedding to be announced?
It would be useful to know who the witnessess were at the wedding in Mold but I don't have access to parish the registers.

Yes I also know of the John Hughes of Llangedwyn, footman in Lileshall but haven't been able to connect him to the John Hughes I'm interested in either.

I did wonder if this might be the same person as the footman:
In 1843 a wedding took place in Llangedwyn where the groom was a John Hughes, Butler at Brynygwalia Hall situated just below Llangedwyn, and son of John Hughes a labourer. He married a Housekeeper Mary Freeman Housekeeper at Brynygwalia Hall.

Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
