Hale family of Chertsey & Ottershaw
« on: Sunday 20 December 15 17:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about the Hale family of Surrey? They appear to have originated in Hampshire (Sherfield, Newnham, Basingstoke) but some of them were in Ottershaw by the time of the 1891 census, and I am particularly interested in the descendants of James Hale (1866 - 1944) and Eliza Martha Turner (1874 - 1940) -- they had twelve children (that I know of) between 1891 and 1916, most of whom were born and died in the Chertsey area.

Cheers,

James  :-*

Thank you for your message.
As far as I know the only James Hale in my tree was born in 1821 and married Julia Buckland. He was born in Wiltshire and worked on the railway.

The Hales are a large family and perhaps with further research there may be a link.

Can you send me the names of James children and dates of birth and I will take a look ?

Do you know the parents for James ?

bye for now Kath

Thanks for the reply, Kate. Alas, if your only James Hale is from Wiltshire and married a Julia Buckland then we definitely have different families. All of my James' children were born in Chertsey, whilst he and his siblings were born in Newnham, and their father in nearby Sherfield.

Hi James

It may help if you post which of the children you are interested in and what you need to know about them.  I see they were in Spinney Lane, Ottershaw in 1901 census.

I don't have Hale connections however may be able to help.  We obviously can't post about living relations on here though.

Yes, I wasn't going to post names of living people.  :-X

And yes, you have the right census there.

The children were:

George
Lily Ellen
Mary Ann
James
Irene Louisa
William
Frederick
Harold Henry
Leslie Ernest
Gladys May
Margaret Norah
Herbert Edward

They were born between 1891 and 1916 and are definitely all dead.

Are you just after meeting up with people related to them or do you need more information.  Freebmd shows marriages and possible children.  Have you tried looking for them on the 1939 register.

as far as I know I have all the BMD stuff (unless I've missed anything due to incorrect data or children born abroad or out of wedlock etc.) but I'd like to get in touch with relatives if possible (children/grandchildren of the above) as there are some gaps to fill in, and I'd really like to put some names to some of the faces on my photos if possible. I'm also keen to find dates for people I don't have them for, due to probate/death records being unavailable, etc.

Apologies for sounding vague!

I've used the 1939 register to find birthdays for a number of people across my family trees. Thank you for the suggestion, though. :)

Basically I just want to give it a bit of polish. Middle names, birthdays, etc.

Well so far I've managed to get in touch with a couple of older relatives, although sadly my tree still has lots of gaps for the newer generations.
