Sue I think that is a different Francis L GRAHAM.  He married  Mary Ann GIBBONS in 1858 and Helen HUME in 1870.  On the 1851 census he is living with his family in Cumberland, England and his occupation is shoemaker.  He died in 1912.

Francis GRAHAM and Mary ALLAN had a number of chn in Melbourne from 1853 to 1865.  This appears to be the birth of their dau Susan mentioned on the 1851 census. Francis was a barber on the 1851 census.

Birth
GRAHAM Susan
Birth    6 Mar 1850  Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Father Francis  Mother Mary ALLAN
GS Film number    0102922-23, 0994182, 102927, 1042941

Just adding a link to the GRAHAM headstone in the Melbourne General Cemetery and I can't find the transcription on my resource :(.

Hi Rodney53,
Well, perhaps next time you pop back online you may let us know if the  findings have been of interest at all.

At least the thread has provided additional information to  one online tree I saw about the family.

http://www.kempfamilyhistory.com/getperson.php?personID=I1400&tree=adkemp

You now have some immigration details and some correct ages and deaths of the first children of the couple.

The marriage certificate would be interesting.  Permission would have been required for Mary WALDOCK's marriage.  We wonder, was it Francis GRAHAM who gave it in lieu of her own parents?

I should add that I now have copy of their marriage certificate. They were married in South Melbourne at the Scots church on 29 May 1855.
Am very grateful for all help/advice/suggestions I have received through this site.
Regards.
Rodney

Hi there,

I am sure you would have noticed that Victoria's BDM certificates are very very detailed.  Perhaps you could type the details from the mc.

Never heard of Dundas used as a first name, if it's not a family name (his granny was a Dundas?) he's probably named for Henry Dundas the politician who ran Scotland for 30 years around that time. Dundas has the emphasis on the second sylable.  ;D

Skoosh.

Not only have I have two ancestors with Dundas as a first given name, you will also find several on the various State BDM Indexes in Australia ;D ;D.

Hello all,
Just reread this thread and see I was remiss about acknowledging how helpful the Kemp(e) family account of the Welshes was in confirming much of the Story of the Dundas Welsh family in Victoria. There does seem to be plenty of evidence of their part in 19th century Victoria.
Many thanks.
