William & Sister Alice Mary Griffin
« on: Monday 21 December 15 18:30 GMT (UK) »
Good Evening Chatters,,,, I have just come across a record that shows the above re entering the UK from South Africa. They arrived in Southampton 26/2/1960 from Los Palmes on board the Stirling Castle, can anyone help with the outgoing voyage and where they sailed from & when.
William & Alice both from Grantham Lincs, ( I am bound to have forgotten something)
Really thought these ancestors did not really travel, trying to understand why they travelled together and not with the other members of the family (sister & mother) .
Once again appreciate anything ..

John

They travelled out on 9.9.1950 aboard the Stella Polaris from Southampton.  It's shown as a "round cruise" so no actual destination

They travelled 1st Class - William shown as a company director and Alice as a ladies hairdresser

Thanks Carole That all sounds right, he was director of Halls of Grantham & Alice did have the Hairdressing Salon on London Road in Grantham Called Griffins. They had Frankie Vaughan Open or re open the salon..

Thank you very much for your help. Is there any way of trying to find out or re trace their steps once reaching the boats destination, or even finding out the ships route in those days . I do believe it is all a footprint, & is possible to re trace their journey,,, but how. Any ideas...

Once again
Thank you
John

yes, Thanks Carole , according to the findings so far the family did own quite a bit of property in and around those days.

I honestly haven't a clue how to trace a ships journey but I'm sure there are other members who do.

It did strike me that 10yrs was a long time for a "round cruise" ;D  but I couldn't find any other outgoing or incoming entries that matched their profiles
