You could check Shrule Ardagh Longford Births 1727-1882 Marriage 1727-1846 Burials 1795-1904 registers at the RCB

The image included here is the townland of Toome from townlands.ie to compliment the headstone Hallmark shared.

The new info James has is certainly exciting - I hadn't a clue of what happened to Sarah Elizabeth Gloster after 1901. Can i ask what resource you are using for the England census?

I'm also at a loss as to what happened to Grace Millicent Clarke after 1901, she was with her sister (Harriette, my great grandmother) in an orphanage in dublin, By 1911 Harriette is living with her fathers sister in Mayo and no trace of Grace.

Sarah Elizabeth Gloster was in another orphanage in Henry St. Galway in 1901. I believe the Ethel Gloster recorded beside Sarah Elizabeth is her sister - Sarah Mortons youngest daughter - born as Mary Gloster in 1891. I cannot confirm the civil birth record yet due to an incorrect link on that birth record (which -just to mess with me- redirects to a page in another registry district that happens to contain the birth record for the daugher of a great granduncle on another family line) I do have her baptism record however, this time recorded as Marietta Gloster, giving her birth date as 28/12/1890. I have not been able to find her after 1901 either.

Hi everyone

Apologies for the delay in responding to this. I haven't been looking at the Mortons for some time

There is lots for me to take in so Ill post more on the weekend.

Have any Mortons DNA tested through ancestry or FTDNA? This may be another way to establish a genetic connection. We have had family tested on both those sites and have uploaded our results to gedmatch but no known Morton descendant matches so far.

PM me with your email and I will forward the records I purchased.

What would be great is if the headstone of Thomas and Mary Morton was still there.

None of the other Mortons mentioned above were children of an Edward Morton, only Thomas Morton who married Mary Faucett/Fawcett in 1840.
Thomas Morton, who married Mary Faucett in 1840, son of Edward Morton, gave his address (in 1840) as Toome, Taghshinny. I also see another Thomas Morton, who married Margaret Rollins in 1803, son of William Morton, also gave his address (in 1839) as Toome, Tashinny. Perhaps Edward Morton, father of Thomas Morton, was the son of William Morton and perhaps Edward Morton was the brother of the Thomas Morton who was married in 1803.

In the Tithe Applotment Books of County Longford c1830 I see the following Mortons mentioned throughout County Longford:
William Morton, Taghshinny Townland, Taghshinny Civil Parish - 1830
John Morton, Toome Townland, Taghshinny Civil Parish - 1830
Widow Morton, Toome Townland, Taghshinny Civil Parish - 1830
Thomas Morton, Toome Townland, Taghshinny Civil Parish - 1830

In my index book for the 1854 Griffith’s Primary Valuation of County Longford, I see the following Morton occupiers mentioned throughout County Longford:
Joseph Morton, Newtownflanigan Townland, Cashel Civil Parish
[A Joseph Morton is also mentioned as an Immediate Lessor at Forthill Townland, Cashel Civil Parish]
Thomas Morton, Cloonkeen Townland, Shrule Civil Parish
John Morton, Abbeyderg Townland, Taghsheenod Civil Parish
William Morton, Taghshinny Townland, Taghshinny Civil Parish

The only Morton recorded in County Longford at the time of the 1901 Census, was a native of County Armagh, and residing at Templeton Glebe Townland, Killashee District Electoral Division, County Longford:
Annie Louisa Morton, Irish Church, Aged 28, National School Teacher, not married

Anne Cobbans father was listed as John Cobban.

Anne and John Henry Morton married the Palace St Meeting House in the Parish of St Peters in the town of Drogheda. Both of their places of residence at the time of the marriage was Oriel Temple Collon.

Anne was older than her husband in both censuses. In 1901 she was 50. In 1911 she was 67.

Annes father was a farmer.

Ethel Gloster went to Canada
Grace Millicent Clarke moved to Victoria, Australia and died there in in 1936 - a spinster.

A little bit more evidence the Thomas Morton born in 1851 was the son of Thomas Morton and Mary Fawcett. All his children were born in Drogheda. He worked as a land steward. He married at least twice to Millicent Guy in Co Tyrone who died in 1888 in Drogheda.  He then married Johanna Jane Arthur. In his first marriage named his father as Thomas Morton - occupation as forester.

Children with Millicent include

Thomas Edward 1876
Robert William 1877
Millicent 1883
Sarah Margaret 1885
Edward Guy 1888

This is where he lived:

http://www.townleyhall.ie/

His last born son was named Stanley Fawcett Morton - born in 1905
Thomas (1851) died in 1919.
His daughter Eva Emily Morton in 1920. Both have Wills up online but I'm assuming they are references to the full Wills.
His son Arthur Henry Morton died in 1902
His daughter Hilda K Morton in 1982

John Henry Morton also married there in 1878

Its a great photo.

Ive done a bit more work on Thomas Morton Jr

His second wife Joanne Jane Arthur was married to Thomas George Whisker in 1886 in Co Carlow. They had 1 child who was born with spina bifida and who died 12 days later. Thomas Whisker also died that year of TB. Two years later she married Thomas Morton in Co Wicklow. I have the birth. marriage and death certificates.

As for Thomas I think he and his first wife Millicent left Dungannon and went somewhere else as theres a 6 year gap between the birth of his second and third children before moving to Townly Hall, Drogheda. I think his last born son Stanley Fawcett died in Wales in 1961 but there record is too recent to order it through the GRO.

We are also fortunate that one of colmc uncles has DNA tested and there is a DNA match between our families not accounted for by another other line. Genetic proof of the connection. I wonder if jmorton would be interested in proving the relationship via DNA
