George Stuart or Stewart, died 1927 in Malaya
« on: Wednesday 23 December 15 14:30 GMT (UK) »
Casn anyone suggest how I might get hold of a death and/or burial record for George Stuart or Stewart, who died of malaria on 27 February 1927 in Malaya? Family tradition says he died and is buried in Singapore, but an announcement in the Banffshire Journal says he died in Kelantan.

Have you discounted the 1927 Marine Death for a George Stewart age 29,Vessel Solo.Page 87.At sea.

Most Singapore cemeteries have been cleared for land reclamation purposes.

Yes, I can safely discount a death at sea because the announcement in the local paper specifically says that he died in hospital. He was a rubber planter.

Thank you for the information about Singapore cemeteries - I'd be happy with just a burial record, if one has survived, whether it is Singapore or Kelantan.

From an estate notice in Singapore:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01gqm/
"George Stuart late of Chaning Estate, Kelantan, who died 27th February 1927"

Some period references refer to the Chaning Estate being on the Kelantan river, and in 1917 being the residence of a Mr and Mrs Graeme-Anderson (or Walter G. Anderson).  Mr Anderson was a mining engineer:

His death notice, however, specifies the General Hospital, Singapore, and his address as Kelantan Rubber Estates

It is likely that he fell ill in Malaysia and was sent down to

It seems you can try and get a death certificate, I am not sure if one of 1927 would list the burial location:

Thank you very much jorose.

Now wondering why I did not find these in the Straits Times when I looked there. Goes to show that more eyes are always better than one pair.
