Mary Miller
« on: Thursday 24 December 15 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Looking for a birth/baptism of a Mary Miller, born c1831 in Gainford/Bishop Auckland.

She married John Cornforth during the December quarter of 1845.

The 1851 census finds the family living in East Murton, County Durham. In the household that night was an Ann Miller, born in Brandon possibly a year after Mary- thinking she could be a sister.

No positive trace of Mary (or Ann) in 1841

Thanks

Sue

Either sight of the entry or copy of the 1845 marriage cert is needed to determine whether her father was George

The 1845 Cornforth/Miller marriage is showing on the free index on Durham Records Online.
However, adding in the father's name as George to the search gives a negative result.

St. Hilda's, Hartlepool. A typed transcript was all I could find. 25 November 1845. John Cornforth, Husbandman, residence Stranton,  son of John Cornforth, Farmer.
Married
Mary Miller, daughter of John Miller, Farmer. No residence typed for Mary.

Hi

Sorry for my late reply-been away over Christmas and New Year!

My John Cornforth's first child appears to have been Robert Cornforth, born in East Murton around 1846, that's why I initially thought that Mary Miller may have been his mother, as she and John married prior to this date.
However a John Cornforth also married a Mary Richardson in Stockton in 1848 - could this be the Mary he is with on the 1851 census?

There is no trace of a birth registration for Robert, so I have decided to buy the birth certificate of their 4th child, daughter, Christiana, born in 1853, to try and determine Mary's maiden name.

Will let everyone know!

Thanks again
Sue
