Anne MACKENZIE and John NORTON India
« on: Friday 25 December 15 22:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I'm looking for the parents of Anne MACKENZIE. And also John NORTON. They married in India on the 18th of June, 1822.

Ann was born in 1797 and died in 1830 at the age of 33 in Bombay, India.

They had one son named William Henry NORTON who married Mary Ann LEWIS.

Anne's father is believed to be Thomas Binstead HUMBERSTON MACKENZIE, but I haven't been able to prove it. Thomas died in 1803 while he was captain in the 78th Ross-shire Buffs, I believe.

The father of Thomas Binstead is Thomas Frederick HUMBERSTON MACKENZIE, and his wikipedia page is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Frederick_Mackenzie_Humberston

No progress on John NORTON, but apparently he had memoirs??

Any help would be greatly appreciated :) thaaank you  :)

I am descended from John Norton. When his first wife Anne Mackenzie died, he married again.
John Norton was born in Birmingham, served with the East India Company, and became Engineer at the Mint in Bombay. Later he moved to the Mint in Lisbon with his second wife and their children.
Anne Mackenzie does not appear to be the daughter of Humberstone-Mackenzie. This seems to be a conclusion made regarding a phrase in the memoirs.

You need 3 posts to gain access to the PM system ;D

It's designed that way to discourage scammers :-\

You have just exposed your email address to anyone in the whole world who can do internet searches!

RootsChat is an open forum - most people find it by doing a google search?!

The PM system (Private/Personal Message) is there specifically to exchange private information, such as email addresses! ;D
