Carnageehy Fitzpatricks
« on: Saturday 26 December 15 18:55 GMT (UK) »
hi,

Does anyone know where Carnageehy is in Galway? My family tree goes back to Fitzpatricks (and Duggans) from Carnageehy. 1901 and 1911 census and the earlier Griffiths evaluation shows them as part of the Carrownurlaur townland. But the birth certficates show the address as Carnageehy (although one says Curraghnabhouy - i also do not know where this is either if anyone knows?).
The most info i can get is a document that says Carnageehy is 3 miles from Milltown (north west of Crevagh - another place i cannot find). However, Milltown is about 4 miles from Carrownurlaur per google earth so I assume it is still within that area. Also, i can find a school called Carnageehy school which according to the map on it's website shows it bordering ballyglass mayo and carrownageeha - I am wondering if this school is the location of Carnageehy or is it somewhere else nearby?
Thanks to anyone that can offer some info as I intend to visit the area one day

It is the townland of Carrownageeha in the civil parish of Liskeevy:

The townland of Carrownurlaur lies immediately north, there are several properties in this 1830s/40s map located where they meet:

Google maps shows Carrownageeha (and Milltown just a couple of miles ESE, and the townland of Creevagh in the civil parish of Killimordaly, several more miles to the SE):

Hi,
Just reading this post now so I know its a long time since you first posted your query. However, just in case you see this, Carnageehy is a small country area just outside Miltown; a village in Co. Galway. There is a national school in Carnageehy alright. I am a Fitzpatrick and many of my family went to school there. It is pretty easy to find if you get as far as Galway.
All the best.
