Hello

I'm trying to locate the resting place of Thomas Roberts born Llannor but had a farm in Clynnog.
He died 1945. His will indicated the following trades people and I'm hoping it will give a clue to the final burial place:

Richard Williams (Coffin)
J.T. Jones & Son - (Hearse & Car)
C.H. Griffith (Hire of Car)
Llew Jones, Pontillyfni (Work in Grave)
T. Griffith & Sons (Brick Cover)

Does anyone have access to a trades directory of the 1940s that might indicate the location of these tradesmen?

The will also pays for a Minister & Vicar - does that suggest a particular type of church?

Any help much appreciated

Neil

Hi
Not in Clynnog Church Burial Register.

Llannor Church register has following 2 entries:

Many thanks Emyr - my ancestor does have a LLannor connection (he was born there and his sister was married in the church) but sadly this isn't my man.

Thomas Roberts was born 12 December 1870 (I can see him on the 1939 register) he lived and died on his farm Cil Coed Isaf at Clynnog-fawr.

I think he was buried with his wife (Anne) - though not been able to track her resting place either. She indicated in the census returns that she was a local Clynnog lass though no burials are listed for her at Bueno that I can see....

He was a relatively wealthy man, owning a farm and indeed paying for the grave off his sister and his family. So suspect that he would have done so for his (much) older wife and indeed himself....

Hi
Do you know his exact or approximate death date in 1945 ? If so it would be a short task for anyone going to Caernarfon Archives to check a local paper. Looking thro' a whole year takes time.

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

Thomas Roberts died 17 December 1945. I have his death certificate.
He was discovered by his nephew John Williams ( though haven't worked out how he fits into things!)
Despite his will and knowing where he lived, Thomas and his siblings are very elusive bunch! Have been trying to make progress for years and was hoping the 1939 register would help, which it did in part as I know his exact birth date.

Do you know what the papers of the time would have been called in that area?

Neil

He's not buried in Capel Uchaf Methodist Chapel or Tai Duon. We recently took photos of all Roberts's  graves in that area, but I couldn't find any photos of your Thomas at Garn Dolbenmaen or Pontllyfni or Llanllyfni. He's not listed either in any of the cemeteries listed on Y FFor. We did visit Trefor cemetery, but I'm not sure if we photographed Roberts graves there.  Will check.

Sorry last post was meant to say Penygroes and Llanllyfni (not Pontllyfni).
