Corby/Corboy
« on: Sunday 27 December 15 13:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I've been trawling the un-indexed parish registers of Tipperary town looking for Corby or Corboy; however, I've found variations of Curraboy, Curaby & Coroby both in marriages and baptisms from 1810 to 1860 for marriages and to 1845 baptisms. Are these likely to be variations of the ones I'm looking for?

Moloney, Cunningham, Corb(o)y, Ryan - Tipperary/Limerick

Very likely!

Thank you for quick replies,
Off the top of my head: Patrick, James, John, Mary, Bridget - these are the main ones and all very common in the Corby lines I'm researching.

There is a Bridget born in 1844 Mother is Jane Dooly, Father is Keiron.
Have you any marriage records to pick up the Fathers name please.
Or, do you know where they settled, eg. USA, England such as Barnsley or Brighton.

I'm sorry Magsie but this doesn't really answer my question. The families I'm researching are still in Ireland and apart from 20th century generation are in County Tipperary. It's particularly South Tipp as these registers were prevented from being put online which is why they are not indexed. At this stage I'm really only interested in the possible variations of the Corby/Corboy name.

Thanks again Magsie,
Yes I am aware of the Griffiths. It's still the Curraboy & variations that are giving me the problem & without knowing how the local dialect might pronounce names I'm becoming more convinced that it probably is an alternative.

You are better off saying what you have already looked at, Griffith's, Wills, Census etc so people  don't waste their time looking at what you have already looked at.
