Hugh Baillie information
« on: Thursday 31 December 15 17:06 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a birth record for Hugh Baillie, according to the information I have he was born in Stoneykirk around 1827. The earliest record I have is the 1841 census on a farm at Carringarosh with Margaret Tally aged 42 and Margaret Sproat aged 20. By 1861 he was in Dailly in Ayrshire again on a farm where he met his wife and they married in 1862. They had 9 children and he died in Dailly in 1882. Any help would be appreciated

Hi there  :)

Any details on his parents' names from either his marriage or death registrations?

His death cert is on a family tree on Anc - Lists him as the illegitimate son of John Baillie - Farm Labourer and Margaret Rowney - Domestic Servant

On his death certificate it is stated his father was John Baillie farm servant deceased and his mother Margaret Rooney ? deceased although I have seen it as Rollie on another document, I assume this was the pronunciation by the person collecting the information. Again I have been unable to find either of them anywhere

Kay, I have seen that, my understanding is that it is his wife that was illegitimate. Could well be it is my family tree you have seen

I think it could well be your tree - the illegitimacy could well refer to Hugh   Do you mind if I post a small extract to get the view of others?? You are probably right but I haven't seen it written like that before

I would say that the refence to illegitimate on his death cert refers to him only, not his wife.

Just adding this link to old post with more details www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=679397.0
