Dutch West India Company ships c. 1767
« on: Friday 01 January 16 17:48 GMT (UK) »
I have a relative who was the commander of one of these ships in 1766. He left a will before setting out on a voyage (destination unknown) which I assume didn't end well, as the will was proved not long after. How can I find out what happened to the ship? Grateful for any advice.

Can't offer much advice but there are others here who may be able to located details for you if you provide a bit more information;

Name of ancestor
Name of ship
Port of sailing.

As many of these ships were slavers they may well have changed names frequently so it may be very hard to get any solid information.

The ship was the Granville and the port most probably London, and his name was John Siddall.
Am aware it's probably a long shot. :)

Interesting reading and the date of 1767 may be just a coincidence.  It mentions 2 ships from Liverpool, one from Bristol and one from London.  You might have to read the complete book to see if it mentions the names of the ships involved.

Good Luck

Richard
