It's strange but I couldn't find my gtx2 grandparents who married "according to the Roman Catholic Church" in Kirkcudbright in 1855 in a private dwelling house presumably by a visiting priest. I have posted enough on Rootschat before so don't wish to clog up the system.

I did find just 2 of their offspring baptised at St. Joseph's Stranraer; Alexander Williamson and Robert Marshall Williamson but not my gt. grandmother who was born in 1860 and other brothers. Strange but maybe they just didn't bother.

It's good to have a little more information though. Thank you Scotland's People.

Brown, Green - Rutland

Deakin - Staffordshire

I haven't received that email, so thank you for posting that info, 3sillydogs  :)

Judy, like we know with old records, RC records are patchy. The RC archivists went round some years ago to RC churches around Scotland to check for old registers is my understanding. Had a long old chat with the RC priest at Mingarry in Argyll a couple of years ago. They took registers to copy and return (either as copy registers or originals). As with the OPRs, many registers were lost and destroyed over the years.
