......or gets plain complicated! Just what is their Fynney connection????

I noticed one of the kids had Daintry in their name - this is a surname I recognise from several sale of land documents also there is a Daintry Street in Leek.

Ps, I wondered where you we're finding this info. I had a FindMyPast subscription last year but it's now expired. Seems I may need to consider renewing it!

Hi

I have a sub on Anc*, there are quite a few Daintry Wills on there, just looking through them ~ seem quite a well connected family. Can't fit this Catherine in with them yet.  :-\

Hi SiCallear
Following on from your other post about Fielding Best Fynney...........

Ruth Fynney is not too difficult to track down.
I presume you have their marriage entry from the Alstonefield register - it's on FindMyPast, loving transcribed as surname 'Fanny'!  ;D I have submitted a correction. The clerk writes 'Finney', and she signs 'Ruth Fynney". (But bless them for their wide ranging phonics check).
The witnesses are William Fynney and JOhn Green. Ralph Johnsone is from Earl Shilton, Leicestershire.
It clearly states the marriage was by licence.
If you then go to the Lichfield Marriage Bonds and Allegations page
http://search.findmypast.com/search-world-Records/staffordshire-dioceses-of-lichfield-and-coventry-marriage-allegations-and-bonds-1636-1893
you are rewarded with the application Ralph Johnsone made - full of information.
He is 21 or over, she is 19 of ALstonefield. Both have been living in ALF. And her father signs to give his permission - indeed William Fynney.
You can them go to familysearch and find Ruth's baptism, and those of 3 siblings including a John, at Alstonefield, father William, mother Elizabeth. Their marriage is also on there - but I'll let you have the fun of that discovery!
(most probably on  FindMyPast too but I haven't checked there - cheaper and more easily searched on famsearch).
Hope this helps you a little way down the road.
Still can't tie him in with the other Finneys I know of - mine didn't come to Alstonefield until much later - but as I said on my other post, most probably related somewhere way back!

BY the way, I see BumbleBee couldn't find Fielding Best Fynney's will at Lichfield either - I don't think there must have been one. As I said, he was such a prominent man, and there is so much written about him, that somebody would have found it by now if it did exist.

Just realised I had only read Page 2 of this post - some of this has been found before,
Ah well, never hurts to have somebody else confirm.  ;)
If you don't have access to FindMyPast, lots of libraries have.

"My" John Fynney has links to part ownership of a mine near Wetton until his death in 1828.

His parents AND Ralph Johnson and wife Ruth are buried together at the Alstonfield church.

I do not know where John is buried. Have found later family at St Edwards church and later Leek Cemetry.

The origin of Ralph Johnson is very much a mystery given the Leicestershire connection.

I've been through Daintry Wills and can't find any reference to Catharine in them, I feel there may be a connection to them though. Most of the Daintry family were born in Leek but were living in Cheshire at the time of their decease, which is where Catharine and daughter Glaphira can be found in 1851 census.

St Edwards Cemetery has this

Here / lieth the body of John OAKES /
late of Leek Gentn. / who departed this life the 4th /
day of June A.D. 1712 / aged 45. /
Saml. Daintry TOMLINSON / son of Richd. and Catharine /
TOMLINSON of Leek died Octr. 10 / 1812 aged 3 months. /
also Ellen TOMLINSON his /
sister died Octr. 24. 1814 / aged 3 years and 4 months. /
the above Richard TOMLINSON /
died on the 30th. March 1834 aged 55. /
also the above / Catharine TOMLINSON, / (formerly DAINTRY) who /
died on the 23rd. October, / 1856. aged 80.

If you do a burial search for John Fynney (1752-1828) on FindMyPast his burial comes up ~ St Edwards, Leek.

Buried : 22 Nov 1828
Abode: Compton
Age: 76

According to Sleigh, Fielding Best Fynney had an elder brother William, he had three daughters Margaret, Sarah and Elizabeth, all died unmarried.

I have a note sent to me some years back which refers to this William being born on 22nd August 1731 and christened at All Saints Dilhorne on 4th September 1731 also marrying an Elizabeth Lunt in August 1754. They had one son Stephen William born 1762.

I know that this is conflicting and I am happy to send you the note that I have which is lengthy and covers the Fynney lone containing Fielding Best Fynney. It is not my research and does not give any sources. It might help to eliminate much of this long note I have found to be correct but not all.
