Conwy Valley newspapers 1966
« on: Sunday 03 January 16 23:37 GMT (UK) »
A relative died a few miles south of Conwy in September 1966. He had quite an interesting life.

I recently met another relative who said he saw an obituary for this man, but could not find it now, almost half a century later. He thought it was probably a local newspaper, but was not sure.

Could someone kindly advise me what newspapers circulated in the area in 1966, and what library might have them.
I live in Ireland, and occasionally visit the British Library in London. I would also be quite happy to visit a library on the North Wales coast. Perhaps they might even be online.

Hello tabbey,

You would probably find the obituary in The North Wales Weekly News. This can be viewed on Microfiche at Llandudno Library telephone 01492574010 open Monday to Saturday. The Archive, The Old Board School, Lloyd Street, Llandudno LL302YG Telephone 01492577550. also has the same information and they will do a search for a fee and if they find it will send you a copy. They are open Monday To Thursday and their e-mail is archives@conwy.gov.uk

Hope you find what you are looking for,
Kind Regards,
Ellen

Possibly also the Daily Post, North Wales edition.

Its just possible that the obit could be in Welsh language, Or  English, or both languages.

The National Library of Wales has a very good collection of newspapers as you might expect, and although their online archive only seems to cover up to 1919 it does list all the newspapers and dates of circulation so you might be able to find other places to look for the obituary.

Hope this helps.

Hello tabbey,

You may find a post on this site produces some responses:

http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/

It covers Conwy and there are people on it who might even remember your relative! Some of the members visit the Archives in both Conwy and Llandudno, people who request a look up often find someone offers to do this.

Jo.
