Wife and children of William Moore of Walton.
« on: Monday 04 January 16 23:57 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find the place and date of William Moore's (Born abt 1855, Harwich, Essex) marriage to an Emily from either Kirton or Falkenham (Born abt 1884). I believe they had 5 children from abt early 1880 onwards:- Sidney Charles, Lawson James, Olive and Alma Agnes plus one other
I know that William was a cab/ coach driver taking a regular service from The Coach & Horses Inn in Ipswich to Felixstowe's Bath Hotel. His father, James Moore ran a ferry service from The Dooley Battery which was the old Martello Fort (N), now part of Felixstowe docks, across to Harwich. He was also the landlord of The Walton Ferryboat Inn, which was known locally as The Dooley.
Any help with children's names or info about Emily please.

Have you made an error with Emily's birth year?

Have you checked freebmd for a marriage? www.freebmd.org.uk

Which census did you get Emily's details from?  If they had a child born 1880 - have you looked for them on the 1881 census which is free to search at

As at least a couple of the children are born in Woodbridge this looks a good possibility

Marriages Dec 1880
Hunting    Emily        Woodbridge    4a   1469
Moore    William        Woodbridge    4a   1469

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Yes, Thanks for that info. Woodbridge may well fit, as I believe it was a registry which covered most of the Felixstowe peninsula. This would include Walton, Kirton and Falkenham.

Yes, thanks to both of you. I am convinced she was a Hunting. 1911 census which says 5 living children also has Charles Hunting, a cousin, born Woodbridge.

Thanks everyone for help and hints. I have managed to extend a reasonably close branch which I knew next to nothing about.
