If the marriage in Weobley is correct then he named his son Percy Henry, there is a Henry Townsend born in Holme lacy I in 1846, mother Jane, no father

Thank you All for your interest and information. Trish you have turned up so much for me and I hope to piece it all together after the arrival of Percy's birth and marriage certificates.
I believe Percy is a member of the 88th Company of the Imperial Yeomanry in the 1901 census. I  suspect he added to his age to become a member.

The marriage and birth certificate for Percy Townsend 1881 came today.

It looks as if Trish 1120 was correct with her surmise.
